Pictures from my trip to Lofoten in January. I really want to go back there someday! Hopefully I will be able to see the midnight sun there sometime.

Ripping my CD collection to disk

I’ve been thinking about this for about a year now and I have finally come to the conclusion that I have to do it. My old CD collection takes up too much space! Also, I really want to be able to play all my CDs via other means than putting them in the cd player.

What I have been looking for is a software that can do the following:
1. Rip to FLAC and MP3
2. The program should automatically check for errors. I don’t want to manually check for errors in the ripped files.
3. Album art and info should be automatically added to meta data of the ripped files.

So far I have searched out the following products as possible solutions:
CDex – http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/
Exact Audio Copy – http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/
Media Monkey – http://www.mediamonkey.com/
Audiograbber – http://www.audiograbber.org/
dBpoweramp CD Ripper – http://www.dbpoweramp.com/cd-ripper.htm

Anybody tried any of these software solutions? I will update this post when I figure out which one i like the most :)

Update December 15th:
dBpoweramp was the best solution for me! I’ve ripped over 50 cds this far. There is a trial version you can use for free for 21 days.

Kolbeinsvarden at Askøy

I went to Kolbeinsvarden at Askøy this Saturday. It is a small peak at only 231 metres above sea level. In my 10 years of living in Bergen I have been to most of the mountains in and around the city center. Even at this small height, the view at Kolbeinsvarden easily beats all of the above. It has an astounding 360 degree view. I took a couple of pictures from this trip and I can’t wait to go back there on a summer day with better lightning conditions.

Autumn HDR

I’ve recently discovered the wonders of HDR photography. With 550D photo bracketing and the excellent PhotoMatix software I created these images from a recent trip to Nordnes here in Bergen

While looking for new equipment for my Canon 550D camera I came across http://www.kesslercrane.com/

The Kessler Pocket Dolly is used in this highly inspirational video by Khalid Mohtaseb. I’m currently looking into buying one of these!
